In 1994 when Cameroon claimed ownership of the Bakassi Peninsula, Nigeria's Head of State, General Sani Abacha deployed troops of the Nigerian Army there and quickly established Bakassi as a local Government Area, which became official on December 12, 1996. Abacha maintained Nigeria's control over Bakassi until his death on June 8, 1998. However, after many armed clashes have occurred in the disputed region,the International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled in favour of Cameroon based on the 1913 Anglo-German treaty, transferring sovereignty over Bakassi to Cameroon on October 10, 2002. Following the ICJ ruling, Cameroon and Nigeria signed the Greentree Agreement on June 12, 2006, which outlined the withdrawal of Nigerian troops and the transfer of authority in the peninsula. It is found in the rainforests of west Africa. Its is a traditional And popular ingredient in Nigeria cuisine,usually used to prepare dishes like AFRICAN SALAD(ABACHA),ISIEWU(GOAT HEAD),SOUP LIKE (OKRO SOUP)and it can be used as a snack. It is endowed with anti-inflammatory,anti microbial and antioxidant properties,it’s is also capable of lowering cholesterol level,regulating blood sugar and supporting digestive health.It is rich in PROTEIN,ESSENTIAL AMINO ACCID and OIL making it nutritious.
